Flame Retardants

Flame retardants are a key component in reducing the devastating impact of fires on people, property and the environment. They are added to or used to treat flammable materials, including insulation. The term “flame retardant” refers to a function, not a family of chemicals. A variety of different chemicals, with diverse properties and structures, act as flame retardants and these chemicals are often combined for effectiveness. International Code Council (ICC)

International Green Construction Code

The International Green Construction Code (IgCC) is the ICC’s model code that includes sustainability measures for the entire construction project and its site.

International Residential Code

The International Residential Code (IRC) is the ICC’s comprehensive code for non-commercial dwellings and townhouses up to three stories. It includes all building, plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas and electrical requirements.


R-value measures the ability of insulation to resist the flow of heat. The higher the R-value, the better the product’s insulating power.
